01/24/07 - Learn more about the culture and history of one of the world's most exciting countries during Fayetteville State University's (FSU) "Experience China" series.
This four-week weekend course, presented by instructors and graduate students who are natives of China, offers a general overview of Chinese history and modern culture. The 2.5 hour sessions, from 9 to 11:30 a.m., include lectures/presentations followed by hands-on activities.
Below is a listing of the sessions and the lecturer:
Session 1: Overview of Chinese History and Civilization - Dr. Yali Li
This session is an examination of key concepts and significant themes in Chinese history. Topics include Confucianism, popular religion, government, foreign policy, the economy, Western influence, Chinese revolution, and modernization.
Session 2: Modern Chinese Culture - Visiting Students
This session is an overview of Chinese culture to include dynasties, family, Mongolian culture, and annual festivals. It is presented by four graduate students who are currently exchange students from Inner Mongolia University.
Session 3: Traveling to China - Dr. Yukai Chen
Dr. Chen will lead a panel of university professors in a discussion of planning and preparation for travel to China and how to deal with the unexpected once you are in China. The professors are part of a group that traveled with Dr. Chen to China last year.
Session 4: Chinese Cooking - Dr. Yin Yang
Dr. Yang completed her dissertation on Chinese Cooking and will share some insight on preparing an authentic Chinese meal.
