Day after day, week after week, month after month, and year after year, the Subway in the Rudolph Jones Student Center does not get any better. The general student population feels the same way. Just ask your fellow peers, and you may even share the same sentiments as they do.

One can go into the Subway Store anytime throughout the day, and it is nasty. According to a student, he witnessed one of the workers touch them self in an inappropriate place with gloves on and then continue to serve food with the same gloves on. The sanitation rating at Subway is a 96.0, but it is absurd to me how they achieved such a score.

When asking peers who stood in the same line at Subway what they thought of the restaurant the individuals looked at me with sincere faces in not to many words said that Subway was slow, its workers have bad attitudes, and the store is nasty. Many times, the floor of the store is sticky and the counters are dirty. Beyond anything, the resturant is unsanitary.

Such things are true, every time I enter the Subway I always ask the worker who is on duty how he or she is doing, and some of the time the worker answers me with a sovereign complaint.

Moreover the one thing that is continuously a problem is the lack of bread. The idea that an independent franchised restaurant runs out of supplies not once in a month, not once a week, but every day is ludicrous and should be of concern to the student body. If it's not bread its chicken, if it's not chicken its roast beef-the store is constantly lacking supplies and is a malfunctioning entity of the Food Services that students pay for.

When Mr. Jenkins is around the workers are "happy-go-lucky" and do more to help the customer than they normally would. But once he is gone, even with the immediate supervisor in close proximity they are drained again and look miserable. If we as students pay for food services and we provide their salary, then we should demand that they do more for us.

The Subway has gotten to the point where it is despicable. The store could be so much more, but it is so unfortunate that at a university with more than 6,300 students the Food Services manager can not prepare for the volume of students that purchase food from the restaurant daily. There is absolutely no reason for there to be no bread in the evening.

This relays the compentency of the workers back to the managers which is lacking, and the student body should not be satisfied with mediocracy. The Food Services employees would not be here if it were not for the student body, which means it is our duty to ensure that we have the best of the best, and what we have now is no where near good.

Subway just needs to do better in general. Yes, they have improved by a small margin since last year; however, they still need to improve on that cleanliness and the supply of bread in the establishment. (Continued…)
