The City of Fayetteville unveiled more plans a few weeks ago for the proposed State Veterans Park and Northwest Gateway changes to be made to downtown Fayetteville. The proposed park will be placed on both sides of Bragg Boulevard between Hay and Rowan streets and adjacent to the Airborne and Special Operations Museum.
The plans for the park and Northwest Gateway calls for the city to reorganize the area surrounding the intersection of Bragg Boulevard, Rowan Street and Murchison Road. In this new plan, the intersection of those three important downtown roads will be made into a roundabout while the city also prepares for the reconstruction of the Rowan Street bridge, which failed state inspection standards this past year.

The project has already required the city to buy hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of land where the park will be located, and has also called for the beautification of the area to serve as a primary entryway into downtown Fayetteville.
The city says that the proposed road restructuring and park will help to enhance the appearance of the area and will help to connect downtown to key community focal points like Fayetteville State University, Fort Bragg, and the Haymount neighborhood. The project also calls for housing development downtown in a community being called Rowan Commons. While there will be additional housing and commercial offices placed downtown as part of the plan, the city hopes to keep much of the natural beauty of the area, such as the mature trees and existing parks.

The proposal and plans for the park and downtown development comes not long after the Fayetteville City Council voted to offer tax breaks and incentives for developers working in key areas surrounding downtown as part of the city's commitment to beautify Fayetteville starting with the downtown and moving outward.
This movement is also part of the major reconstruction of Murchison Road as Fort Bragg begins preparation to close assess via Bragg Boulevard.

These plans will no doubt include changes for the area surrounding Fayetteville State University over the next 10 years that will almost completely change the face of Murchison Road.
